Inspiration in a glance
My day may consist of teaching lampshade making or a showing a group of children how to make cushions. I could be upholstering a 100 year old chair in trendy modern fabric or painting a new chest of drawers to look distressed and vintage. But, in my office, my chalk board reigns one glance and I am inspired for the day.
I could never survive without my very low-tech Chalk Board. It acts as a constantly changing moodboard, for abstract notes which only I understand, lists of upholstery jobs, inspirational pictures ripped from magazines of which some element appeals to me, mood boards, dates for and types of classes I am teaching.
Moving to the Middle East following my training, I worked for many years as an interior designer and I found organisation to be paramount. I still have to use my computer and computer diary for my left-brained organising of the financial side of the business. But, being a visual right-brained person, I find I still like this sensory system for my memory.
Lynne trained in Furniture Design, Cabinet Making and Upholstery, also tacking on an Interior Design course. Upon completion, she took a challenging role as an interior designer in the Middle East. Lynne now owns The Home Specialists, a shop selling furniture she and her husband restores, upcycles, paints and upholsters, and runs classes in soft furnishings, upholstery and lampshades.
